Default Two GW Accounts on Same Computer

Can I have two GW accounts on one computer?

If so, can I be running both accounts at the same time (if my processor and bandwidth will allow it?)

BTW, in case anybody is wondering why I would want to run two accounts on one computer at the same time, it is because I hate wasting play time by selling stuff in towns. If I have two accounts, I can have account open to sell stuff in a town, and I can have the other account open to play the game.

This way, I can sell stuff for income, and play the game for fun at the same time.

I know you can have 2 accounts on the same computer, just like you can get on your account on any computer.
But i'm the wrong person to ask how to run them both at the same time.

Yes, it's possible to have both running at the same time. Is it playable? No clue. I just use mine to run other chars around.

This article is what you want to read. It is somewhat outdated by now and the original forum thread doesn't exist anymore, but the method described there still works. Also, there is a 3rd party tool named GWx2 that does the same without you having to manually hack the gw.exe (be wary from where you download it, there are likely many malicious imposters around). You may also want to check out this thread.

Wow. If I understand correctly, this seems to be describing a way to run two instances of the same GuildWars account simultaneously. I was asking about running two different accounts simultaneoulsy, but this is even better...if it works.

So if I can do this, can I "play with myself" online? LOL. No, not that way...

I mean, can I take two of my characters and go questing or farming together? Or just run myself places? Or level one character up? Or run a mission for one character? How is this not cheating?

EDIT:

Ok, I guess I misunderstood. I've done some more reading. It still looks like a single account can still only be logged in once. But if I have two accounts, using one of the methods described above, I can be using both at the same time on one computer. In this way, I could still run myself and farm with myself, right?

you can log as many DIFFERENT accounts as you want on a same computer but if you have a pretty old one, 3 or more will make things extremely laggy but it'll work for muling items (useless to chestrun like that nowadays^^)

with 2 running instances you can perfectly play without lags

you cant run the GWs just like that though, you'll need a lil registry tweak to change the folder where GW is supposed to be and kill the program handle that consider GW already running. There are loaders as well but i strongly suggest you forget this idea

I believe the thread that 84-175 is in fact intended for running two instances of GW with two different accounts on the same computer. It looks like it will do what you're looking to do, but the video card may get swamped trying to render both games at once (assuming that you'll be keeping one copy open in a small window at the edge of your screen so you can see if people are looking to trade with you).

ie: i can run 2x GWs w/o lags with an old ATI Radeon 9600 128mb ^^
but if you are switching GWs and letting one in the background instead of displaying both, after a long while without switching it takes a lil while to get the other one back on a older comp^^

Note: you can run 2 Accounts but NOT log two chars from the same one, the first char will be instantly kicked when the other logs in
(and you wont even have a message saying so ^^ so if you lend your account to someone, you might have surprises sometimes ^^)

Maybe I don't understand how to kill the program handle without also killing the program. Can you help me on this? Also, I read somewhere else that you had two bat files you used to update your registry files after every GW update. Can you post the commands for those bat files? If so, thanks.

Finally, can both gw.exe and gw2.exe both read/write to the same gw.dat file or do I have to copy over the entire gw.dat file as well? If so, how do I get gw2.exe to read from the gw.dat file? I did the registry edit thing, and when I tried to start gw2.exe, it started downloading gw.dat.

For GWx2 you need to copy the gw.exe file into the 2nd folder you create. You do not have to copy gw.dat but you might as well as it will just download the dat from the web if you don't anyway. Copying the dat file will save some time. GWx2 will not read and write to the original dat file. the 2nd instance of GW will simply create a new dat file in the 2nd folder.

Everytime they update the game you will have to copy the exe file or one of the instances will simply close instead of playing.

Would you be able to run the same account at the same time if logged onto from two seperate computers though?

No. Here is what Witchblade said:

As was mentioned: It is absolutely not possible to log in more than once at a time with one single account, no matter what you do. The different methods (hacking the gw.exe, GWx2) allow to simultaneously run multiple instances of the client software on the same physical computer, but to log in to the game, you need one seperate account for each client. Yes, with multiple accounts, you can "play with yourself".

From the performance side, more important than the video card is actually the memory of your computer. Don't even try it with less than 1 GB (More is better. With 1 GB, loading times will be horrendous).

I don't really understand your question. All you need to do is edit the gw.exe and the registry, no need to kill any program handles?

With the hex editing method, every instance of the client needs it's own copy of the gw.dat file. Yeah, it's a waste of HDD space, but it's unavoidable with this simple method.

I got it working. I only have one GB of RAM, so you are right about it being slow. I have even crashed my computer twice. It seems to help if I never minimize either window, but just move back and forth between the two as needed.

Thanks for the help everyone! I can now play with myself online. Ha ha.

As a sidenote, I started a new character with my second account, and decided to do "Power Level" her with my lvl20 character. But it doesn't work. For some reason, my new character doesn't receive exp points unless the window is active. She can be within "radar" range and even be in the aggro bubble where all the action is taking place, but unless her window is the active window, she does not recieve exp points. She still gets drops, but not xp. And, of course, she only seems to get drops as long as she is within radar range of where the action is taking place.

Anybody know if this is normal or if there a work-around for this? I guess the best thing would be to use two computers. But other than that, any ideas?

lol the reason for this is b/c in order to receive experience points you need to either A) let the enemy touch your aggro bubble or B) cast on some-1 who's aggro bubble is in RANGE of the enemy. ~cheers!

edit: wow oops... sorry for reawakening a dead thread >.< i did a google search on how to run more than 1 GW via registry edit (and this thread popped up and i didn't notice when the last post was [and b/c i have been using GWx2 for the last 2 years]) cause i am tired of only being able to run 2 accounts on GW when i have 5 accounts in total. :\
